This is a really hard question to answer. In general, I think Americans have become scared and the political system in the US has become more extremist. I do not know what it is like in the Muslim world, but I imagine the image Muslims have of the US can't be very good.
I dont know why in many places around the world you can find some people do same unacceptable things and people do not change their minds about them for example; the Red Army in Ireland.
The most obvious change is the way we travel with heightened security, especially at airports. To some degree the events of 9/11 have polarized Americans as a result of the animosity that the terrorist caused. For a brief time, the Christian faith of many was revived, but along with it, a revival of patriotism occurred. Christianity and patriotism don't mix well, although many attempt it. While Islam may encourage the government to come under the rule of its religion, it is contrary to the teaching of the Bible. The founding of America is predicated on the belief that government should not force people into their religious beliefs. Hence, when people attempt to use Christianity to stir up patriotism, true Christianity suffers along with our system of government. In looking at my country over the last few years, most of the changes since 9/11 were not good.
